This poster featuring In the Flow (2025) was produced in by Gagosian in 2025, in conjunction with Julie Curtiss: Suburban Lawns at Gagosian, rue de Castiglione, Paris. In the exhibition, Curtiss presented several new paintings, including this vivid depiction of a woman clad in a Lycra jumpsuit and augmented reality glasses riding an exercise bike. The scene unfolds as if viewed through a tank of tropical fish, the out-of-frame edges creating the illusion that the woman herself is underwater, merely another creature on display. A coexistence of multiple levels of containment is implied as perspectives shift and differ between the viewer, the unknown figure, and the tangential reality to which she has exclusive access.
Curtiss is a 21st century artist interrogating the world around her. Her painting focuses on the relationship between nature and culture. She says "In my images, I enjoy the complementarity of humour and darkness, the uncanny and the mundane, grotesque shapes and vivid colours."
Approximate dimensions: 24 × 36 inches (60.9 × 91.4 cm)
