The Story

Is there a more seventies typeface in existence?! We love this poster, printed in 1973, oozing with period character. The image of a pair of boots is quintessentially Jim Dine. One of the most important artists of post-war USA, Dine is concerned with the poetry of everyday objects: boots, tools, braids, dressing gowns - how we read them, and how we connect to them emotionally.

Dine was born in 1935 in Cincinnati, Ohio, moving to New York in 1959 where he  became a pioneer of the Happenings movement together with Allan Kaprow, Claes Oldenburg and Robert Whitman. Closely associated with the development of Pop art in the early 1960s, Dine diverged from the coldness and impersonal nature of Pop by making work about the personal and the quotidian. His work has been celebrated down the decades, with major retrospectives at the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Guggenheim in New York and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.

Approximate dimensions: 22 x 30 inches; 55.6 x 76 cm
